a sorry realization

We've been coming to Cannon Beach, approximately every other year, for 21 years. Usually, we come in the summer (though one time we were here in November, during a really amazing wind storm), and with one exception, we've always stayed at the same motel. This is the first time in all those years, that there have been vacancy signs up during the summer. None of the motels here are at capacity. So,if you're in the vicinity, head to Cannon (though maybe it'll be busier on the weekend).

We're on our last full day here, and it's been fabulous, as always. We've had microbrews at Bill's Tavern, breakfast at Pig n Pancake (this morning: Dungeness crab omelette with Tilamook cheese and Rainier cherries). For lunch, I sat in our room and ate crab dipped in butter (from Ecola Seafood). Tonight, we're eating at the Lumberyard. I intended to maintain a sensible diet, but that went out the window on the first day at the beach. It'll be all work when we get back, though I have been running 2+ miles every morning, so that helps.

We'll be sorry to go, but we'll enjoy getting back to Portland, and from there to Snohomish, WA (my home town).

So far, I have resisted buying more yarn, but that's even harder than resisting the Maple Bars at the Cannon Beach Bakery

It is impossible to maintain a 'sensible' diet in the face of crabs and clarified butter. It's, like, the law or something...

You're right, it is sad to realize how widespread this whole "economic downturn" is becoming. But I'm glad you guys are having such an amazing time -- the pics are gorgeous!

Such a beautiful place! I really love the foggy pictures. Enjoy the vacation while you have it. I think the food is part of the local experience.

I'm deeply jealous. I visited Cannon Beach once, years ago, and have spent most of that time wishing I could go back.
