I don't know why the little crotch piece was supposed to be crocheted separately, and then sewn in place. Seems like a lot of unnecessary work to me (fraught with the possibility of misplacing that all important hunk of fabric).
By the way, that's about $1,000 worth of Bubble Cut Barbies right there in that picture.
