First, check this link out:
And when you can breathe again, this is us in a complimentary studio shot taken at our bank, of all places. Denim suit? check. Center parted hair? check. Unbuttoned shirt? check. Neverending collars? check. The library backdrop? check. The sideburns? Oh my god, the sideburns. check. It must be about 1977.
To prove that I'm an equal opportunity humiliator, come up with a suitable caption for this horrible picture and post it in the comments today and tomorrow. The winner (chosen totally arbitrarily) will win something. I don't know what, but I promise it won't be a copy of this picture.
P.S. I made that dress. And I wore it on purpose.
The seventies weren't kind fashionwise were they? I can show a picture of me wearing plaid pants and I wasn't even a golfer. Before I even read that you made the dress I though it was the best outfit. I was seven years old in 1977. I need to ponder awhile for title to your picture.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a clever caption for your family. We all suffered from bad photos during the 70's. After visiting the Olan Mills website, I think I need to go take a bath. I feel like I have spent the morning grubbing around basements, flea markets, resale and charity shops. :-)
ReplyDeleteWould you like some applesauce with those CHOPS?!
ReplyDelete"Look mom...The Librarian has her dress caught in her pantyhose...."
ReplyDeleteThe photo is wonderful
I love the photo! It's like looking at my high school year book. How about: Library Night Fever
ReplyDeleteKathleen,
ReplyDeleteI just caught up on your posts after the holiday and read your weight management post below. I so know what you are going through. I lost 80 lbs. in 2006, and have kept it off for the most part. I have started training for marathons and triathlons. I absolutely love it. It has gotten me through some really dark times lately. Pre-weight loss I was on prozac and a mess. Now I have/am dealing with some huge life-stressors and can say that I am managing these much better that I did the little stressors before. It is worth it, and I really commend you for sticking to it.
BTW, I get the weight loss comments all the time. In fact, I sat and talked to a guy that had been to my house numerous times for dinner and he didn't recognize me for almost 30 minutes. Sometimes the post-weight remarks can be fun. Sometimes, though, you are right and it can be weird.
Groovy!!!
ReplyDeleteReally, I love the picture. :)
Roy clark and Minnie Pearl before they were famous!
ReplyDeleteHubby helped me to ponder out a title.
"All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth." comes to mind. Maybe "The family of the future today?"
ReplyDeleteI'm no good at titles, but what a beautiful family! All grown up with beautiful families of their own by now?
ReplyDeleteI love reading your blog and appreciate the free patterns that you post!
ReplyDeleteHere's my caption (referencing one of my favorite movies as a kid):
Little Anthony said to his family: "smile big! After this we're going to have hamburgers with peanut-butter! Yum!!!
Smile for this photo then you can change back into your real clothes and take off the wigs!
ReplyDeleteActually this is almost identical to our family photo, only we had one son and a daughter. I sewed my clothes and even had made hubby a leisure suit!
"Mom knit these neat sweaters for us!"
ReplyDeleteor
"Father Knows Best????"
The cynic in me thinks "Savings Account for Prep School/ University/College - $25 weekly; Amount "saved" at barber - $5 monthly; More savings on designer dress - $100; Yarn cost for sweaters - $10; Displaying cropped photo at the weddings -Priceless!"
I think it's a slice of life photo - and congratulations for posting it!
The boys' smiles belied their disappointment that they would never be allowed to solo for the family gospel singing group until they could grow muttonchops as groovy as their dads'.

ReplyDeleteThe magic of ventriloquism was diminished for Curtis when he realized he could make Matthew's mouth move simply by turning the handle on his back.
ReplyDeleteCaption: They had how many children?
