The Field Report, and A Fair Isle Sample

The crab apples are past their peak now, and dropping off the tree, which means the deer are very happy. The apples aren't good eating any more- too mushy. What's left (on the tree and off) will serve well for the wildlife in the area.
The soybean fields are beginning to dry down.
The pods are full, and starting to dry as well.
The cottonwood trees are starting to turn. We don't get much fall red or orange this far north, but we get beautiful, electric yellow.
And I am working on another sample hat for my All Day Fair Isle Class (which I am teaching at NCFF and SAFF- links to the right). This is the adult size sample (we're knitting the toddler size in the class, but the pattern for this size will be included in the handout). (Yarn: the white is Cascade 220, the striping is from Yarn Treehouse, size 5 needles).
And best of all- today is the first fall meeting of Knitters Etc., in Aberdeen. It'll be wonderful to see all my knitting friends and catch up on what everyone did on their summer vacation.

  1. I've noticed the first leaves on the ground here. That, and I had to close the windows last night, are sure signs of fall.

  3. What weight and color is this yarn? I need to treat myself to something new for my stash. I like the project you are knitting. Can't wait to see the finished item.

  4. I had to dig hard, brown leaves out of the hydrangeas today, then noticed that there are a lot of them in the grass, too. Fall is here--no wonder the hydrangeas hardly bloomed. In Southern California!!!

I have enjoyed the farm pictures, and am interested to see what the plants look like at harvest. Too bad the crabapples are no good already.

  5. Pretty, pretty hat. Please show the finished project, too.

Just got a copy of the sock book from my library (I requested it) and I'm looking forward to trying some of the patterns. Hmmmm...which one, which one--so many great patterns to choose from. Lovely job! Thank you.

  6. Kathy- I just went to the Yarn Treehouse site (link in Stash Enhancers), and it looks like this particular yarn is no longer available, which is sad. It was lovely, worsted weight, striping yarn (that also felted beautifully), lots of colorways, for a reasonable price. Keep checking their site, maybe they'll get it back in stock.
