Hollyhocks!

I tried for many years (and at several houses) to establish hollyhocks. It finally worked.

I've tried many times- with purchased seed packets, with purchased seedlings, and gathering dry seeds. This time, Terry brought home full seed stalks from an established patch and we just beat them against the foundation on the house and let the seeds fall wherever they wanted to. They sprouted last fall, and then came back this year and have taken over (just like I hoped they would). We'll take a few stalks from this batch and sprinkle them around the garage too.

We had those on a farm I grew up on a long time ago and I have always wanted hollyhocks! I think I tried once or twice but I am going to remember your secret. I love the colors!

Beautiful - I've been looking for single flower hollyhocks. They are hard to find out here in MA. Maybe when I find a house that has them I'll beg a stalk. Flower seeds did not work for me. Still looking for a good organic seed nursery.
