Freebie Friday- V-Neck Cardigan and Fingerless Mittens for an 18" Doll

It's been awhile since I posted a Freebie Friday pattern, so it's fun to have one I can share with you all again. The body of this simple v-neck cardigan is knit in a single piece with fingering weight sock yarn and size 3 (3.25mm) needles, with the sleeves picked up and knit in place (though you could cast them on and sew them in afterward, if you want). The matching fingerless mittens complete the set.

My finished sweater weighed (buttons and all) 51 gr, so you may be able to knit the entire sweater with 50gr of sock yarn. But if you want the fingerless mittens, you might want to do the ribbings in a contrasting color if you are using new yarns and don't want to dip into a second 50gr ball for a few yards of yarn. This pattern is ideal for leftovers- make it in stripes, or knit all of the sections in entirely different yarns for a glorious mis-match.

Here's the drill, for those who are new to the Freebies: you may knit as many of these as you like, you can sell them... I don't care. Please don't repost the pattern though- if others want it, direct them here for downloading. If you post pics of the sweater, please post a link to here too. And if you want, send pics to me and I'll post them too. Click on the page images (2 for this pattern) to enlarge, save as jpgs, and then print from any graphics program.

Enjoy!

I wish I could remember how to knit, crochet, or do anything creative for that matter!

How generous of you to supply this pattern. Thank you very much

Any way to change this pattern so it is readable when printed, tried all sizes of text and barely readable?

Are you clicking on the image and saving the image to your computer and printing each page out separately? They should be full sized and readable if you do that.

HI, THERE I am trying to print this pattern for the doll sweater and cannot as someone preciously stated. The text is so small that I cannot read it. Tried to save and it did not work. Thanks a lot, Karen

I wonder if the issue is with your printer settings. Check the page layout and see if you can adjust the image to a full page. Otherwise, I am at a loss to know why it's coming out so small. The pages should print full size.

I also cannot print this. Not only does it come out extremely small, but it is fuzzy and out of focus.

I am truly confused. I can print them out full size from here. You do have to click on the image first (otherwise you just get the thumbnail) and save it to your computer as a jpg. Then when you open it in your graphic program, check the Page Settings, to make sure that the image fills the entire page. It should be a full 8 1/2" x 11" image, with no blur. I hope this helps.

I too cannot print this pattern full sized , not can I enlarge it! I really want to make it and wonder if you have any suggestions? Thanks

I just tried it again, and I was able to right click and download the page (not the thumbnail, but the whole page after clicking on it in the blog post) and print it out full sized with no fuzziness. I think the issue must be in the printer programs. I use Paint (included with all PCs), I check the page setup, I click Portrait, I click fit to 1 x 1 page with the standard margins and it prints out just fine. I am totally confused.

i am having trouble, can I use round needles instead of DPNS? Help! thanks

Kathleen Taylor said...

Only if you use the magic loop method, otherwise the circulars will be way too long for the circumference of the sleeves.

Sorry, i was thinking of the mittens, and if i use the dpns do i have to cast 6 stitches on to each needle or 24 onto each needle?

Kathleen Taylor said...

24 sts total, divided on the needles.
