The Movie is Out There

SQUEEEEEE! It's Mulder! and Scully! It's Mulder and Scully together!!! Again! Finally!!!!

The only reason that my ringtone is Van Morrison's Moondance is because The X-Files theme song isn't available for my phone (or Into the Mystic ). I came to The X-Files late, about in the middle of the 4th season, in fact I think Small Potatoes was my very first episode. But I fell in love instantly. And when I fall in love, I stay in love, even after the main players leave, and The Lone Gunmen died stupidly, and no one ever explained how it was that Scully got pregnant (not to mention confirming with whom). Since I was late to the party, I never got too wrapped up in the whole conspiracy thing- I was much more entranced with the one-offs: A Post-Modern Prometheus, Bad Blood, Fight Club, the ones where Mulder switched bodies with Michael McKean, and my all time favorite- X-Cops. And I was a shipper before I even knew what the word meant.

I'm still a shipper- and I suspect that whatever else I Want to Believe has, it'll have shipping up the wazoo (happy, sad, I don't care).

The chance of it being an actually good movie is pretty small, and I don't care about that either. I just want to bask in the glow of Mulder and Scully together again. July 25 cannot come quickly enough.

Thursdays are also for...

There are no words.

Thursday Tab- Saalfield #2411 Anna, Bess Cherry and Dee

As promised, here is another version of last week's Miss Diane, with 2 of the same dolls (renamed). Anna, Bess, Cherry and Dee is larger, both in size and scope, than Miss Diane, with 4 dolls and 8 pages of clothes. The little owner of this book renamed the dolls, writing the new names in pencil on the cover. She was imaginative- I don't think I've ever heard the name Bellicent before.
You can see the difference in color saturation on the outfits that are in both ABCD and Miss Diane- the quality of this book is much higher. Unfortunately, I whitened the pages of these scans (for printing), but didn't save copies of the original tint. Sorry.
Right click on images to enlarge, click to save as jpgs. Print from any graphics program, clothes on plain paper, covers on card stock.

A Light at the end of the Sock

I'm in that crazy-making-last-of-the-book stage now, so blog postings will be few and probably garbled (like my brainwaves). I'll be back soon, finished (or at least as finished as I need to be at this stage).

Thanks for hanging in there with me, and for being patient.

Stashy Enhancier

New stuff to play with: about 4ozs of rainbow, hand dyed Shetland roving, and about 4 ozs of purple/blue/green/yellow Merino/Mohair roving, both from Winderwood Farms (http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5062870 ). They're beautifully dyed and prepped- I can't wait to spin them. (and btw- Winderwood's prices are fantastic)

And my shameful addiction- yarn from Twisted Fiberarts. The last pre-order came and almost went before I got to it because my modem fritzed, and Twisted's stuff sells out almost instantly. But I did score a skein of Agnes (lovely self-striping green and purple) in Kabam (merino/bamboo- check out the sheen on this yarn), and as always Twisted sent along a little sample skein- I got Netherfield, the colorway I covet the most and have yet to own (in the full size). I was going to knit little socks and mittens for package tie-ons with my sample skeins and spun up roving samples, but now I'm thinking of doing patchwork socks with them, and left overs from my other Twisted yarns, as soon as I get to knit some, and actually have left overs.

I hesitate to say this because I am selfish through and through, but Twisted (link in Stash Enhancers) has announced another pre-order. The colorways are beautiful as always (I have Firefly and Teacake on my wish list, in both yarn and roving), and there is a new colorway, Minstrel, to be announced. The pre-order will go in effect sometime between July 10 and 15. If you want some, be ready to check the website obsessively, and be ready to order the second it becomes available because there is rarely time to reconsider before the allotment sells out (and for those who have never ordered from Twisted- they dye the yarn after the pre-order is completed, so it can take from 1-4 weeks for your yarn to arrive. It's worth the wait).

Speaking of Twisted Fiberarts- I did join their heavy-yarn club, and will get 3 bi-monthly shipments of heavier yarn (not sock weight) in exclusive colorways. The first should arrive next week. I am so excited!

Ain't it the truth?

Ask Not For Whom The Cow Poops

Because, unfortunately, it poops for no one. Cow Pie Bingo was unexpectedly canceled yesterday, perhaps due to Bovine Constipation. (For the non-Midwesterners: a pen is marked off in squares, those squares are sold for $5 a pop, and then a cow is put in the pen, and whatever square the cow poops in, the square holder wins, up to $500, to the delight-or disappointment- of the cheering crowd). But even without that diversion, yesterday held everything a small-town 4th of July Celebration should, and more.

You had your parade, with families wearing patriotic hats. And your pretty girls in convertibles. And you had your soldiers and flags (our Guards have already done a stint in Iraq and may have to go back), and your huge agricultural machines, and fire trucks with sirens blaring. And your politicians running for office. And businesses throwing out candy by the bucket load to the children lining the street (who come to parades armed with grocery bags for loot). You had your cool old cars. You had your class reunions sitting on flatbed trucks, already celebrating. You had your Boy Scouts on little racers. You had your large fiberglass town mascots, and coffin tractors.
And you had your horsies, one of which decided to dump its rider right in front of us, and bolt toward the startled crowd.

After the parade, you had your activities at the Fair Grounds- face painting (one lone painter, toiling in the sun, with lines of little girls who waited over an hour for their turn), balloon launching, horse and buggy rides, grilled bratwursts, and a beer garden (possibly for those who stood in line for over an hour with little girls who wanted to get their faces painted).

Firecrackers, etc are legal in South Dakota, so the air was peppered with cracks and pops and the scent of gunpowder all day. At home, we grilled steaks and had watermelon, and swam all afternoon, while the girls lit smoke bombs. And when it finally got dark enough, the city put on a grand fireworks display (which my camera refused to record).

The weather could not have been more perfect- I don't think I ever remember a 4th so mild and beautiful (in the mid 80's, low humidity). Today, there is a car show in the park, mud volleyball (which I may go watch), and tonight there is a street dance (which I won't attend, but I will probably be able to hear, even out in the country where I live).

I love my town.
